A Guided Framework to Simplify Conversations With Parents

A few months ago, I asked one of my favorite social worker friends, “What do you like about your work?”

True to her warm, generous personality, she said, “I truly love children…I love accompanying families on their parenting journey…this work really ‘matters’.”

Naturally, our conversation led to what’s challenging about family work, too.

She said, “My training in sensory processing, attachment, trauma, and brain science gives me a good foundation to support complex children.  But the part of my job that takes up a ton of my mind-space is when I see a parent interacting with their child in ways that are not supportive.”

“I wonder, ‘how can I point this out without insulting them?’ because I know they’re doing the best they can to manage situations.  But if they used a different approach then a better relationship would be possible…and the whole family would thrive.”

It can be hard to know how to begin talking with parents when you can see they’re already overwhelmed.

Plus, you don’t learn in school how to have conversations with parents about what they can do for things to feel better in their family’s life.

Which means you might spend a lot of time and energy racking your brain about how to have these important conversations; in the meantime they are put on the back burner.

Good news: there is a simple framework to make conversations with parents easier!!

If you want to talk to parents about their role so both they and their children  flourish, I invite you to my upcoming 6-hour CE online class.

I’ll be teaching pinpointed parenting strategies that create more calm, connection, and cooperation across a variety of family situations.  Plus, you’ll learn how to communicate in a way that invites parents to partner with you (and doesn’t trigger further overwhelm or defensiveness).
